2-15-12 NNKC invades Buttonwillow Pro-Kart South
Eight NNKC drivers made the long haul down to
Buttonwillow Raceway just outside of Bakersfield, CA for
the opening round of Skusa's Pro-Kart South event this
past weekend. It's the start of a new year and that
means news toys to roll out for the NKKC crew. Steve
Ryckenbosch rolled out a new chassis and motor package
in the stock moto class as did Garrett Dixon in the Tag
Jr. class. Garrett moved up to Tag Jr. this year and
Austin Dement moved up to Tag Sr.
To kick things off Garrett used his Energy/Swedetech
package to record a 5th place finish in the main event
of Tag Jr. Garrett qualified 4th out of 17 drivers and
brought home his maiden Jr. 2 race a top five finish. It
seems the increased speed and bigger chassis will have
little intimidation factor on young Garrett.
In Tag Masters, NNKC once again showed why it has two of
the best Masters Tag drivers in the country. Glen "the
stache" Mckinnon and Dave Harwin strapped up in Tag
Masters and were able to come home 2nd (Harwin) and 3rd
(Mckinnon) after a hard fought 20 laps on a very
demanding circuit. It was also very cool to see Harwin
rocking the number 2 national plate on his Tony Kart
this weekend, after earning it on the national circuit
last year.
In the 125 stock moto class John Morgan with the help of
Nevada Kartsport's Rodney Rivera would step out of his
comfort zone of Reno and make his first appearance in
Cali. John noted before the race that he had been
working out profusely for 125. He went on to say, "I
switched to a less filling beer and I stopped using my
treadmill as a coat rack. I haven't actually used the
treadmill yet, but it's ready to go when I make that
leap." Steve Ryckenbosch would join John in 125 rolling
out his brand new Zanardi kart and getting it shaken
down before the NNKC schedule starts. These two would
battle for 20 laps in the main event; John kept Steve
honest the entire race with Steve finishing first and
John right on his bumper in second. After the race both
drivers needed medical assistance and a shot of morphine
but came away with smiles on their faces.
Three Reno drivers would be entered in the ultra
competitive Tag Sr. class. With just under 30 entries of
Cali's best, Koerner, Dement and Peterson would have
their work cut out for them. Koerner would continue his
improvement as a driver in only his second year of
racing and looks to make huge strides this year with a
solid result against stiff competition. Dement would
show he has what it takes to run with big boys but
ultimately would succumb to a thrown chain in the main
event. Later Austin would state, "that curb wasn't there
the lap before." In all seriousness Austin had a top
five go-kart and will be a player this year, he was also
plagued by motor gremlins all weekend but still showed
great speed. Jess Peterson with the help of Cole Nelson
of Nevada Kartsport on the wrenches would continue to
show everyone why he's a hack. Peterson was making a run
into the top five late in the main event before being
punted by a complete bush leaguer. Peterson wasn't
available for comment after the race because he was too
busy looking for someone to yell at.
All in all the NNKC crew with the help of the Nevada
Kartsport shop had a good solid opening to the 2012
racing season. All the drivers showed good speed and
they all looked competitive against very strong
competition. It should be a good year for NNKC drivers
and steady improvement looks to be in the cards this
year. Remember any write-ups or stories you wish to post
to NNKC.com, simply email them to El Presidente Jess
Peterson. Until the next race, keep the chain oiled and
the tires new.
Sincerely,
The hack karter

Update 9/07/11
The original closure date was supposed to be September

that premise, our make-up date is October 15, 2011
(Saturday).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update 8/24/11
Make-up club race is this SATURDAY August 27th. This
race is the make-up one for earlier in the year that we
had to cancel due to weather. Our night race was
absolutely insane and produced some great racing and
some of the best kart counts in the region all year.

Airport Pilon School. Please do not try to enter track

Club Meeting Minutes, April 5, 2011 Meeting called to
order @ 7:00p.m
•OLD BUSINESS:
-The MG Whites will be the tire of use in all shifter
and TAG classes for the year of 2011. Tires are
available through Pete Morley or Ed Deidrich. Contact
them for any orders.
For the time being Whites or Yellow Mg's are acceptable
at the club races, at a later date we will discuss
switching everything over to the Whites.
-The club asks all members who are able to renew their
membership, or those seeking new membership into the
club, to do so tonight for 2011. Your support is greatly
appreciated.
We are up to 60 members, the board and I would like to
thank all you guys for your support.
-The Motorsports Expo Show went great this year; we
would Like to thank all of our volunteers and helpers
who made this possible. We really got some positive
exposure out of it.
We got some really good exposure off this event. I know
its tough to put on, but I believe that it's worth it.
Thank You again to everybody who helped and made that
event possible.
-Club took in MORE donations for the sealcoat of our
race track. Around $3,500+ has been taken in. We need to
stay on this; re-sealing the track this year is
paramount.
We've started buying product and this project looks like
it will get under way in the next 2-3 months. We can
still use some more money, but considering it's all
donations this is pretty awesome guys.
-Please REMEMBER that all karts this year must equipped
with bumpers that cover the rear tires (Plastic or Metal
is acceptable).
One race grace period for this will be implemented. We
will make bumpers mandatory for the second club race.
•NEW BUSINESS:
-The club asks all former members who are able to renew
tonight to please do so.
60 members, that's great for this time of year guys!!!
-A grace period of one race will be extended for the
rear bumpers, also MG Yellows will be allowed for the
first three races of the year. We've had some members
with extra sets and some people who have had difficulty
getting a hold of the Whites.
After input from various club members, we've decided to
allow Yellow's and Whites for the start of the season.
Also a one race grace period has been added to allow for
all racers to get the rear bumpers on there karts.
-FIRST CLUB RACE THIS WEEKEND APRIL 10TH. FIRST WORK DAY
APRIL 9TH 9:00AM-12:00AM.
The work day is Saturday, remember all club members must
participate in at least 2 work days throughout the race
year. Dan Harris will be leading this work day, and has
a list of things that need to be accomplished.
-Made contact and have started negotiations on new lease
for track.
Working on it...nothing new here.
-Is anyone interested in learning tech?
Got a list going, hoping to do this in the next couple
of months.
-Seal Coat donation list. Anymore donations from those
who have not had a chance to donate. We are asking for a
$100 from each member. If this cannot be made, any
donation is acceptable.
If you haven't pitched in yet, please do so.
-Please keep your dogs on a leash at all times when
bringing them to the track. For one reason or another
they have a wonderful way of ending up on the track when
not leashed.
Dogs must be leashed and tethered to something when out
at track. We love dogs at the track, just not when there
running down the front stretch.
-Also when viewing practice please stay behind the fence
at all times.
The fence is there for a reason, please stay behind it.
-First IKF race is in Redding and it is April 30th/May
1st, please attend this race. Redding has a wonderful
track and the series is really shaping up to be
something great.
IKF series is about to start, please support there
races.
-May 27th and 28th is Reno's Pro-Kart, Reno has had a
huge contingent racing this series so far and I'd like
to keep that up and show a good home crowd for our home
race.
I'm hoping we can have 15+ Reno racers show up for this
event.
-TAG Masters class is up for providing corner workers
for this race, we need 7 people total. 4 corner workers
and 3 grid persons. Please let me know if you are
bringing volunteers. Also if you can't bring a
volunteer, the track would be grateful if you would
contribute towards the corner workers pay for your class
day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update 3/31/11
-This is an announcement for all club members and
affiliates who are racing the IKF Region 11 Elite
Championship Series beginning in Redding, California
April 30th - May 1st. The spec tire is the Bridgestone
YKC. The spec oil is Motul Grand Prix 2T and the spec
fuel is VP MS98L. The fuel and oil is racer supplied.
-MMS Kart shop must have all TIRE orders in before
Friday April 8th for this race. Please call Ed at the
shop 775-322-4549 to place your order as soon as
possible.
-I hope you notice that IKF has included the 4 cycle Box
Stock Clone class to it's schedule this year which
really shows how far this class has come. All you clone
drivers wanting to maybe go to a different track and
race at the regional level should take advantage of this
opportunity. There will be a strong contingent of Reno
drivers at this event. We expect 15+!!!
-More classes available that we run here in Reno include
Kid Kart, Jr 1-2 Cycle, IAME Cup and IAME Cup Masters (Parillas),
and Formula 80 Senior.
-For those that do not understand IAME Cup, IAME Cup is
an IAME engine only. So this class will have all Parilla
Leopards in it. One is a Senior Class, the other a
Masters class, just like we run here at NNKC with TaG
Senior and TaG Masters.
-registration form, You may print, fill out and send to
Shasta Kart Club address at bottom of form. You may also
pay through paypal for all your race fees. Shasta Kart
Club has a great facility and setup for an awesome
weekend of fun.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update 3/19/11
-Due to the weather and avoidance of wanting to annoy
everyone with holding a non points race is terrible
weather. The NNKC board of Directors has decided to
cancel the Tune-Up race scheduled for tomorrow March 20,
2011. There will be no make-up date for this race
because it is a non-points event.
-Also the grace period for converting over to the
Bumpers will be extended to the first NNKC race, after
much thought done by the board of directors.
-MG Yellow tires will be an acceptable substitute for
the MG Whites tires for some duration of the NNKC
season, but eventually MG Whites will be the mandatory
tire for all classes designated for it.
-Motor sports Expo Show is next weekend and we still
need volunteers to man the both for Friday during the
day, contact Dan Harris or myself is you can help with
that. Also please spread the word that the race is
cancelled for tomorrow, I know an e-mail is going out
but not everyone checks there e-mail everyday, so spread
the word please.
Thanks,
NNKC President
Jess Peterson

to order @ 7:00p.m
•PRESIDENT’S STATEMENT:
-I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you
for putting your faith in me and electing me as your
President for the Year of 2011. I think we have a great
group of club members and board members who's only
aspirations are to take the club to new highs and also
have a good time while in the process. I'm looking
forward to meeting the new club members as well as
strengthen the existing relationships with current
members. All I can say is 2011 is shaping up to better
and definitely more fun for all those involved.

-Dan Harris will be in charge of the Motorsports Expo
Show (More on this in a few)

stay on this, re-sealing the track this year is
paramount.
-Brian has also been in contact with NFRA. They will run
1 race with us next year and will try for 2 races at
their December scheduling meeting.
•NEW BUSINESS:
-The club asks all former members who are able to renew
tonight to please do so.
We picked up 8 membership that night, thank you to all
who signed up and got your money in.
-Tires for 2011...Let the brawl commence.
The club meeting vote was unanimous for a change over to
MG's SK Whites for the upcoming season in all TAG and
Shifter classes. Also MG partnered with SKUSA has a club
support program that gives money back to the club itself
for running MG's and buying sets. Also this helps out
the guys that are going run the Pro-Kart series this
year, this thing looks like a win-win for everybody
involved. I really appreciate the club's participation
in this discussion, with the e-mails and the meeting
participation, this was truly a club wide vote.
-2011 Scheduling. New dates are on the flyer and also
the new schedule will be sent off with an e-mail
tomorrow with the newsletter.
The club schedule has been modified, so please look at
the new schedule attached and make adjustments. Sorry
for the mix-up but some of our dates overlapped with
some of the other races in the Region, I'm sorry for
this and I hope it doesn't cause to much trouble for
anyone.
-Dan Harris would like to talk more about the
Motorsports Expo show. The date has been changed Dan is
on top of it. The motorsports expo show dates were moved
to March 25, 26, and 27. Yes, the tickets that were
handed out are still valid according to the promoter. If
you wish to volunteer to run the booth for a couple of
hours please talk to Dan Harris.
-Brian, Dan, and Jess spent an eventful Saturday morning
at the bank getting all the club's finances squared
away, and were looking pretty good for the upcoming
year. The clubs books are looking pretty good this year
so far and it's only February. Were still about 2,000$
dollars short on the track re-sealing fund, so please if
you haven't donated yet please contact me, every club
member should pitch in on this.
-Made contact and have started negotiations on new lease
for track. It's a work in progress but everything is
coming along nicely, I'll keep you guys posted.
-Jr. 1 Dads... Clones or Comers?
Jr.1 dad's voted to stay with Comer with a spec gear.
I'd also like to thank the Jr.1 dad's for really
discussing the issue and coming to a sound decision.
Club participation is what we need for these big
decisions and it worked well here.
-Is anyone interested in learning tech?
We got a few more people signed up for this, were still
trying nail down the date but this class is going
happen.
-Seal Coat donation list. Anymore donations from those
who have not had a chance to donate. We are asking for a
$100 from each member. If this cannot be made, any
donation is acceptable.
This has to get done this year, were 20 to 30 people
away from donating to this thing to get it done, so if
you havent got your money in, please do so. This is a
donation and we are a non-profit, so this can be written
off as a charitable contribution since tax season is
right around the corner.
-Dave "Mini Me" Brant would like to talk about the
NASCAR simulator at Scheel's.
Dave Jr. works at Scheel's at the NASCAR simulator and
they have tournaments all the time and the prize is a
gift certificate to Scheel's, if your interested in
doing this contact Dave Sr. or Dave Jr. Also if you do
go in there, don't do anything to get Dave Jr. fired.
-Also huge announcement,
Tom Halbasch will be our Race Director for 2011!!! Tom
is lending us a hand this year RD, he's got years of
experience and in generally is just a fun guy to be
around. Were looking forward to having Tom on the crew
this year.

appreciated.
-The club agreed to run all tracks except track 7. This
will be replaced with a long track.
-Dan Harris will be in charge of the Motorsports Expo
Show (More on this in a few)
-Members did a great job conducting themselves this last
season. What I saw was lots of enthusiasm and
excitement. We need to keep that up.
-Club took in MORE donations for the sealcoat of our
race track. Around $2,000 has been taken in. We need to
stay on this, re-sealing the track this year is
paramount.
-New board members were elected last meeting.
•NEW BUSINESS:
-The club asks all former members who are able to renew
tonight to please do so.
The Club picked up 3 more memberships that night,
looking strong and were way ahead of last years re-up at
this point.
-NNKC Awards Banquet Saturday December 11, 2010 from
5pm-8pm at Grand Sierra Resort Crystal Ballroom; was a
complete success and all those who attended had a great
time, I'm the sure the bowling for the kids and alcohol
for the adults helped everyone get into a very festive
spirit.
Everyone said the banquet went very well, most likely
this is what we will do for this years banquet
-Brian has also been in contact with NFRA. They will run
1 race with us next year and will try for 2 races at
their December scheduling meeting.
The NFRA guys are wonderful and Brian has been in
contact with them, it sounds like we have two races with
these guys. We have a one race commitment from these
guys for sure, but two sounds like it might happen.
Brian and Jess are trying to get these dates locked
down, so when the NFRA guys come to town they are well
received.
-Tires for 2011
VERY IMPORTANT!!! If you are an 80 driver or Tag driver
please voice your opinions on this topic. The club would
like to switch all TAG and 80 classes over to MG's. A
lot of our TAG guys are committed to running SKUSA in
the upcoming season and our 125 guys already run MG's,
and we had some 80 guys wanting MG's this year. The
board did not feel comfortable taking a vote on such an
important matter without more attendance at the meeting.
However WE WILL be taking a vote next meeting on this
topic. Also if you can't make the meeting, send Jess an
e-mail and voice yourself that way.
-2011 Scheduling. Finalized.
Schedule is done and printed up, e-mail will be going
out with full schedule.
-Dan Harris would like to talk more about the
Motorsports Expo show.
Dan has this thing pretty much on lock, we need
volunteers to work show like last year. Also set-up guys
and tear down guys for our both, we get good exposure
form this and got a few members from it last year, so
it's worth the time and effort. Contact Dan Harris for
information...
-We need a race director for the year...Any Takers?
It wasn't decided who would RD but we have volunteers
who are willing to do it. They are Ed Deiderich, Jess
Peterson, and Brian Rivera... If you would like to throw
you hat in the ring, let us know.
-Track clean-up Dates and track configuration schedule.
It's coming with the schedule to be sent out. (Nat: see
DRIVER page)
-Made contact and have started negotiations on new lease
for track.
Everything seems cool on this front so far, will update
club as information becomes available.
-Jr. 1 Dads... Clones or Comers?
The comer dads are discussing this amongst themselves
and will have an answer for the club next meeting.
-Is anyone interested in learning tech? IKF has training
being conducted for this in January. Ed will be going to
the IKF meeting this weekend in Ontario, CA. Would
anyone like to bring up issues that he should bring to
the National IKF board?
Multiple club members expressed interest in gaining
certification in this area. Ed will see if IKF's tech
guy will fly up to Reno and give a one day tech seminar
at MMS, the more people we get the cheaper it is for
everyone. Also to have multiple guys that can do tech at
the club is a huge plus, karting has always had a
constant shortage of qualified tech personnel. (Nat: $50
for 2 Cycles Tech, $50 for 4 Cycles Tech, and $75 for
both classes)
-Seal Coat donation list. Anymore donations from those
who have not had a chance to donate. We are asking for a
$100 from each member. If this cannot be made, any
donation is acceptable.
We received another 200$ in donations for seal coating
from Bruce Garafola and Greg Hanson. Our total is now
around 2,500$ for seal coating, were half way there
people!!! |
